Breaking Habits – Part 1The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:4
We all struggle with habits - what’s yours? Be honest! For many of us, it’s attitude that keeps us from growing, excelling and soaring to the heights God planned for us. (Psalm 139:23-24 NIV). Bad habits are ‘ways’ of thinking and acting that become part of our everyday lives; ways of trying to meet a need or fill a void. They’re like crutches we use to get through life. When a habit takes control of us, the Bible calls it a ‘stronghold’ (it has a strong hold on us). Do you have a habit you want to be set free from? As long as you think you can break it in your own strength, nothing will change. By operating in your power, you’re disconnected from God’s power. Jesus said, '... The branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me... for without Me ye can do nothing' (John 15:4-5). You must come to the place where you make a conscious decision each day, and sometimes each hour, to surrender your life and your will over to God so God through his spirit can shape and mold you. To pray, 'Lord, I don’t have the ability to overcome this. I choose not to give in to it. Strengthen me now by Your Spirit.' That’s a prayer God will answer, for He always empowers our choices when they line up with His will! Whatever you’re struggling with today, remember, '... we... have divine power to demolish strongholds.'
