Have You Any Meat?

Jesus said ... children, have you any meat?"  John 21:5

Why would an omnipotent God ask simple fishermen a question when He already knows the answer? Their response certainly can't enlighten Him. God's intention is always to make you think about how you answer His questions.

He asked Adam, "Where are you?" (Gen. 3:9). He asked Abraham "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" (Gen. 18:14). He asked Ezekiel, "Can these bones live?" (Ez 37:3). Now He's asking the disciples "Have ye any meat?"

What God really wants you to consider is whether or not what you're doing is working... the long hours of overtime... the frenetic pace... the skimping and saving... the unwillingness to trust Him. And how about all that baggage you've carried for years... the hard heart... the angry walls you've built to keep from being hurt again... have you "any meat" to show for all your efforts?

God's not interested in the size of your boat or who's on board! In fact, some of us have bragged so much about the size of our church and the big name celebrities in the pulpit that we can't admit that we no longer catch fish! We're so competitive and worried about what people think that we're afraid to confess the truth.

Deliverance always begins with confession. The disciples replied, "We have fished all night and caught nothing." They first had to acknowledge that their best wasn't good enough.

When you don't have any meat there's only one thing to do. Unplug the phone, turn off the TV, get into your prayer closet and let God show you where to cast your net.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to cast my net in the places you pick for me and not where I want to fish.  You alone are to set my agenda today!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Another question from God. "Is my hand shortened that I cannot save?" Isaiah 50:2. Keep up the good work on the devotions--a very edifying part of my day

    Brother Timothy:

You sure don't pull your punches! As you can see, I am just a tad bit behind in reading the DAILY devotional. Who said working in a church office was easy??!!!

Thanks for the words of this day.
