Setting Priorities - Part 1

Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, Ephesians 5:15

Your greatest challenge will always be - to think and to do things in order of importance. The discipline to prioritize and the ability to work toward a stated goal are the keys to success. A life in which anything goes is a life in which nothing goes. The question isn't, 'Will my calendar be full?' but, 'Who'll fill it?' When setting priorities keep these three things in mind: (1) What's required of you that nobody but you can do? (2) What brings you the greatest return? (God doesn't reward wasted effort, He rewards results. Remember the parable of the talents?). (3) Your highest level of joy will always be found in the middle of your God-given assignment. A lighthouse keeper on a rocky stretch of coastline received a new supply of oil once a month to keep the light burning. Being close to shore he had lots of guests. A woman from the village needed some oil to keep her family warm; a farmer requested some for his lamp; a man wanted some to lubricate a wheel. All the requests seemed legitimate, so the lighthouse keeper tried to please everybody. Before the month was over, his oil was gone and the beacon went out. As a result several ships were wrecked and lives were lost. When the authorities investigated, the man was very repentant. But to his excuses and pleading their reply was, 'You were given oil for one purpose - to keep the light burning!' Your life's priorities should be based on God's will, nothing else!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me keep the main thing the main thing – and help me keep it always your will that guides.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Great Devotion! Too often we get side tracked by other demands and forget about what God has called us to. Thank you, I needed a reminder. VPalmer
