Get To The Secret PlaceThen, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." Mark 6:31
People’s needs are endless! With the best of intentions you try 'being there' for them, and before you know it, you’re drained. If that’s where you are today, listen to Jesus: 'Let’s take a break' (Mk 6:31 TM). Jesus understood that solitude was necessary for intimacy with God, and intimacy with God was necessary for impartation to others. You see, information may change people’s minds, but only divine impartation can change their lives! You’ve got to get away from the demands of people in order to distinguish the voice of God. Job said, 'the breath of the Almighty hath given me life' (Job 33:4). Until God breathes His thoughts into you, you’re just recycling the ideas of others. In Genesis God said, 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish' (Gen 9:1). Have you learned yet how to 'replenish' your flagging emotions and drained energies? David said, 'He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.' (Ps 23:2,3). Those things only happen in His presence. Ponder these three scriptures: (1) 'Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God' (Dan 6:10) (2) 'in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation' (Ps 5:3) (3) 'Very early in the morning, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed' (Mk 1:35). The message is clear; you need more time alone with God!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to see that place of “quiet” so I can be alone with you. In your precious name, Amen
