Handle Me And See!Handle me, and See; For a Spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see me have.” Luke 24:39
Jesus could say to doubting Thomas, 'Handle Me, and see.' Can you say that? Do you dare let people get close enough to see your strengths and your weaknesses? If we are the Church, we must let people in! That means taking off the mask, getting rid of the religious façade that hides our struggles, and saying to the world, 'Handle me and see. I’m real. I struggle with my kids. I battle with my temper. I worry about my bills. I don’t always read and pray as I should. But God’s made a difference in my life, and what He’s done for me, He can do for you!' Gandhi once said, 'If more Christians were like Christ, I’d be one too!' Unfortunately, the ones he met preached love, but practiced discrimination. They taught the new birth, but perpetuated the same old system of poverty and despair that benefited the few and enslaved the multitudes. Jesus said, 'I am the Good Shepherd' (Jn 10:11). The word 'good' in the original Greek means 'winsome or attractive.' Does that describe you? Do you make Christ attractive to others? It should be a crime to do otherwise! When you’ve had all the 'spiritual experiences' you can have in church, how is your influence at home? Or at work? Can you look at those around you today and say, 'Handle me and see'? Ultimately, that’s the only test that matters.
Prayer
Heavenly Father – help me be real to people and point them to you! At the end of the day – you are the one they should meet. Help me put my “self” aside and let you come forward in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
